These terms govern your use of the Vine Auctioneers website and participation in our auctions. By registering, bidding, buying or selling through Vine Auctioneers you agree to these terms. Please read them carefully.
1. About Us
Vine Auctioneers Ltd (company number 11518164) is registered in England and Wales. Email: [email protected] | Tel: +44 207 117 2952. All auctions are conducted entirely online.
2. Auction Format & Right to Cancel
All sales are conducted by public auction. Under Schedule 3, paragraph 2(b) of the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013, the statutory 14-day cancellation right does not apply to goods sold at public auction where consumers have the opportunity to attend the auction in person. Vine Auctioneers offers viewing by appointment prior to each sale, details of which are published in the relevant sale information. By registering to bid, you confirm you have had the opportunity to attend and have accepted these terms.
3. Bidding
- All bidding is conducted online via this website, the-saleroom.com, i-bidder.com and liveauctioneers.com.
- You must register with the relevant platform and accept their terms before bidding.
- Commission (absentee) bids may be submitted by email to [email protected] stating your maximum bid.
- All bids are binding. By placing a bid you agree to purchase the lot at the hammer price plus the applicable buyers premium.
- Vine Auctioneers reserves the right to refuse any bid or registration at its sole discretion.
- Vine Auctioneers acts as agent for the seller. The contract of sale is formed directly between buyer and seller upon the fall of the hammer.
4. Buyers Premium
A buyers premium is payable by the buyer on all lots, calculated as a percentage of the hammer price and inclusive of VAT where applicable. The applicable rate is clearly stated in the sale catalogue and on the relevant lot listing prior to bidding. By placing a bid you confirm you have noted and accept the buyers premium rate applicable to that sale. No further charges are added on top of the stated buyers premium.
5. Payment
- The accepted payment method is Bank Transfer (BACS) only.
- Full payment must be received within two business days of the sale date.
- Failure to pay within this period may result in the lot being re-offered for sale. The defaulting buyer will be held liable for any shortfall in the price achieved on re-sale, together with any associated costs and charges incurred by Vine Auctioneers.
- Vine Auctioneers does not accept cash, credit cards or cheques.
6. Packaging, Postage & Delivery
- Vine Auctioneers offers an optional in-house packaging and despatch service for the convenience of buyers. This service is charged separately and the applicable rates are advertised at the time of sale or available on request.
- Where a buyer uses this service, despatch is carried out via a tracked and signed-for postal or courier service selected by Vine Auctioneers at our discretion.
- Optional enhanced parcel insurance is available at an additional charge, calculated as a percentage of the lot value and arranged through a third-party insurer. Details are available on request.
- International deliveries are quoted separately. Import duties, taxes and any customs charges are the sole responsibility of the buyer.
- Vine Auctioneers takes all reasonable care in the preparation and packaging of items for despatch. However, once a consignment has been handed to Royal Mail or any other third-party carrier, it passes into that carrier’s custody and care. Vine Auctioneers accepts no responsibility for loss, damage, delay or deterioration caused or sustained during transit by a third-party carrier. Buyers are strongly advised to take out enhanced insurance where the value of the lot warrants it. This exclusion does not affect any statutory rights you may have in respect of goods that are materially not as described.
- Collection in person is available by prior arrangement.
7. Condition & Description of Lots
Vine Auctioneers endeavours to describe all lots accurately. All lots are sold as seen and in the condition they are in at the time of sale. Buyers are strongly encouraged to arrange a viewing appointment before bidding. Catalogue descriptions are statements of opinion and do not constitute a warranty. Pre-owned and vintage items may exhibit wear and patina consistent with age and prior use. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability for fraudulent misdescription.
8. Selling & Consignment
- Sellers warrant that they hold legal title to any lot consigned and that it is free from third-party claims, charges or encumbrances.
- Sellers confirm that to the best of their knowledge the lot is genuine and not a counterfeit or forgery.
- Commission rates, reserves and all applicable charges will be agreed with the seller in writing prior to the sale.
- Vine Auctioneers reserves the right to withdraw any lot from sale at any time prior to the fall of the hammer.
- Sale proceeds, less agreed commission and any charges, will be remitted to the seller within a reasonable period following receipt of cleared funds from the buyer.
9. Limitation of Liability
Vine Auctioneers acts as agent for the seller in all transactions. The contract of sale is between buyer and seller directly. As agent, the total liability of Vine Auctioneers to any buyer or seller arising out of or in connection with any transaction shall not exceed the buyers premium actually received by Vine Auctioneers in respect of the relevant lot.
Nothing in these terms shall exclude or limit our liability for: (a) death or personal injury caused by our negligence; (b) fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation; (c) any liability which cannot lawfully be excluded or restricted under applicable English law. Subject to the above, Vine Auctioneers shall not be liable for any indirect, consequential or special loss, loss of profit, loss of opportunity or loss of data.
10. Privacy & Data Protection

We will not share your data with third parties except as necessary to conduct our auctions, to comply with legal obligations, or with your consent. You have the right to access, correct, restrict or request deletion of your personal data at any time by contacting [email protected].
11. Governing Law & Disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any dispute shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales. Consumers may also be entitled to use an approved Alternative Dispute Resolution scheme.
12. Amendments
Vine Auctioneers reserves the right to amend these terms at any time. The version published on this website at the time of a transaction shall apply to that transaction.
